Albert Bach was a career military officer who represented Austria in the military ski patrol demonstration event at the 1936 Winter Olympics, where he placed fourth alongside Edwin Hartmann, Franz Hiermann, and Eugen Tschurtschenthaler. At the time he held the rank of Leutenant. With Germany’s annexation of Austria in 1938, he became a part of the German Army and served with them during World War II. He was captured by the Soviets near the end of the conflict and released in July 1948, eventually rejoining the Austrian military in 1956. By the time of his 1973 retirement, having resigned in criticism over the national defense policy, he had attained the rank of General of the Infantry. He compiled his memoirs, entitled __ Meine Teilnahme am Norwegen-feldzug: Am Unternehmen Narvik__ in 1983, but never published them.
