British and world ice dancing was dominated in the 1960s by Bernard Ford and Diane Towler, but Yvonne Suddick did her best to break that domination with her partners Roger Kennerson and Malcolm Cannon. Suddick and Kennerson were the first competitive skaters coached by the legendary Betty Calloway, later the mentor of Torvill and Dean.
Suddick was runner-up in the national championships five years in succession; with Kennerson in 1964-66 and with Cannon in 1967-68. In that same period Suddick won a bronze and two silver medals at the European Figure Skating Championships with Kennerson, and two silvers with Cannon, with whom she also won a silver and bronze at the Worlds in 1967 and 1968. Suddick was prevented from winning gold by Ford and Towler on most of those occasions. Cannon and Suddick also took part in the ice dancing demonstration event at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics. After Cannon turned professional in 1968, Suddick continued skating with new partner Peter Dalby before she also turned professional and became a Birmingham-based figure coach
