Duncan Anderson played Australian rules football with the Melbourne University Football Club of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) from 1950 through 1954. During that time, the team won a premiership title in 1952 and was runner-up in 1953. In 1954 he travelled to England to study at Magdalen College, Oxford and, during his time there, he played two first-class cricket matches with the university’s team in May 1955. When the Olympics came to Melbourne in 1956, he represented the VAFA in the demonstration Australian rules football event and helped them defeat the Victorian Football League and the Victorian Football Association combined team.
