Laurie Dwyer played Aussie Rules for the North Melbourne Swans, appearing in 201 games. He was known as twinkletoes, because of his skills on the field, and a background as a ballroom dancer. Dwyer was named to the Kangaroos’ Team of the Century and their Hall of Fame. After his playing career ended he worked for the North Melbourne club as an administrator and recruiting manager. His work was instrumental in North Melbourne’s dominant years of the 1990s. His son, David, later worked for the Swans as an accountant.
