From 1956 to 1963 Brendan Edwards played in 109 Australian rules football matches for Hawthorn Football Club, scoring 29 goals. Early in his career Edwards was part of the Victorian Football League/Victorian Football Association team that played in a one-off demonstration match at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. In 1960 was awarded with the Peter Crimmins Medal for being the best and fairest player at Hawthorn FC. One year later he was named the VFL premiership player for his performance in the 1961 VFL Grand Final. That same year Edwards had pioneered circuit training for the whole team, helping them to victory in the final.
Following his retirement Edwards opened a chain of health clubs in Melbourne and continued to pioneer aerobic fitness in the country. In 1970 he became a life member of Hawthorn FC, before being inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2011.
