Biography

Ray Pettigrove’s brother was a regional champion in rowing, but Ray himself had more interest and talent in Australian rules football. He played for the Coburg Amateurs Football Club, as well as Carlton, and was selected to represent the Victorian Amateur Football Association team in the demonstration event at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. There, he helped them defeat a combined squad of the Victorian Football League and the Victorian Football Association 81-55. After Pettigrove retired from football, he trained as an electrician and later ran his own contracting business. He also had a role as an extra in the 1962 Marlon Brando film Mutiny On The Bounty.
