Yoshitaka Kihara pitched for the Japanese Students Team, while he was a student at Hosei University. Kihara then had a 12-year career in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), starting with the Kintetsu Buffaloes from 1965-67. He later played for the Taiyo Whales in 1968-69 and the Hiroshima Carp from 1970-74, before finishing his career with the Taiheiyo Club Lions from 1975-76. His career record in NPB was 35-56 with a 3.42 ERA.
