Tokuji “Atsushi” Nagaike would become the biggest name from the 1964 Japanese Students Team that played at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics demonstration baseball tournament. Nagaike was a student at Hosei University in 1964, winning the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League batting title that year. He later played for 14 years in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) with the Hankyu Braves. He won two Pacific League MVP titles in 1969 and 1971. Nagaike led NPB in home runs and RBI three times each. He was a three-time champion in the Japanese Series (1975-77).
Nagaike ended his NPB career with 338 home runs and 969 RBI. He later became a baseball coach, initially with the Braves (1980-82), but later with the Seibu Lions (1985), Nankai Hawks (1987-88), Yokohama BayStars (1993-95), and Chiba Lotte Marines (1997-98).
