Hiroshi Shintaku was a catcher for the Japanese Students Team at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics demonstration baseball tournament, while he was a student at Komazawa University. He then had a 13-year career in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB), all with the Chunichi Dragons, although in 1966 he briefly played in the Florida Instructional League with a Detroit Tigers affiliate. He later coached the Dragons from 1984-89 and 1992-94.
