Jan Schäfer was a German sprint canoeist who won a silver medal with the K4-1,000 metres at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He then partnered Marco Herszel at the 2004 Athens Games in the K2-1,000 metres and placed sixth. With the K4-500 and the K4-1,000 metres he won two gold medals at the 2000 European Championships. He also won a bronze medal at the 1999 Worlds in the K2-1,000 metres with Olaf Winter.
Schäfer retired after the 2004 Summer Games. He later became manager of the Baldeneysee-Regatta.
