Mandy Planert was a German white-water canoeist who finished sixth at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and 14th at the 2004 Athens Games in the kayak singles. She was even more successful at World Championships, winning three gold and three silver medals. At the Europeans, Planert added three more gold medals and two each of silver and bronze. Planert married her teammate Jan Benzien and raised two children. She turned to coaching and became a regional youth coach at the Saxony Canoe Federation.
