German track cyclist Jan van Eijden participated in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and finished fifth in the sprint and fourth in the keirin event. At World Championships he won two gold medals (1995 team sprint, and 2000 sprint), one silver (1997 team sprint), and one bronze medal (1996 time trial). Van Eijden also won six German national titles. After his active career he became chief national coach for sprint events in Great Britain and, from 2022, in Germany.
