Jacinta Coleman began cycling in 1995 and quickly became a top national competitor in New Zealand. She competed in the road race at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, placing 10th, and raced on the roads at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, finishing 18th. She was twice married, first to cyclist Jay Sweet, by whom she had a son, and later to James, with whom she had two children. Coleman tragically died very young from bowel cancer in 2017.
