Austrian canoer Adi Kainz participated in two events at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, partnering Alfons Dorfner in both the kayak, and folding kayak doubles. The pair won the gold medal in the kayak doubles over 1,000 metres and finished an unfortunate fourth in the folding kayak event, over 10,000 metres.
Kainz also won a bronze medal at the 1938 World Championships in the kayak doubles over 10,000 metres (with non-Olympian Karl Maurer). He was then competing for Nazi Germany after the Austrian “Anschluss”. Kainz was a trained goldsmith.
