Biography

Defender Stefanie Gottschlich was a member of the German women’s football squad that won the bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics by beating Brazil 2-0. Therefore, she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. She won 45 international caps and scored three goals. In 2003, Gottschlich was a member of the squad that won the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which beat Sweden 2-1 with a golden goal.

At club level, Gottschlich played with WSV Wendschott (2000-03) and VfL Wolfsburg (2003-06). She retired at the age of only 28 years due to knee injuries. She later became a soccer coach.
