Forward Claudia Müller was a member of the German women’s football squad that won the bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics by beating Brazil 2-0. Therefore, she was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. She won 45 international caps and scored 22 goals. In 1997 and 2001 won the UEFA European Women’s Championship, and was top scorer in 2001. Müller became best known for pulling her jersey over her head as she celebrated after Germany scored the winning golden goal in the 2-1 win over Sweden in the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The photograph of her appeared on the front page of numerous newspapers.
At club level, Müller played with Fortuna Sachsenroß Hannover (1996-97), SG Praunheim (1997-98), 1. FFC Frankfurt (1998-99), WSV Wendschott (1999-2003), and VfL Wolfsburg (2003-05). She helped Frankfurt win both the German Championship and German Cup in 1999. By profession, Müller became an insurance agent.
