Oleksandr Beresh was one of Ukraine’s most successful gymnasts, but his life ended when his car was hit by a government sedan speeding through Kyiv. Beresh was the 2000 European Champion in the allround and horizontal bar events, and had won three individual medals at the 2001 World Championships. At the Sydney Olympics, he placed third in the allround event and led Ukraine’s squad to a silver medal.
