Birgit Engl was an Austrian handball player finishing fifth at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She also participated in the 2001 World Championships and 2004 Europeans. Domestically, she played with UHC Stockerau and Hypo Niederösterreich before moving to Iceland, and playing with IB Vestmannaeyjar and UMF Stjarnan, and then with HSG Sulzbach/Leidersbach in Germany.
