Franz Lorenz was a member of the four/five men Austria 2 bob crew which finished 22nd at the 1928 St. Moritz Winter Olympics. Beside Franz Lorenz, the crew consisted of his brother Richard, Benno Karner, Franz Wohlgemuth and Eduard Pechanda. They were all affiliated with Bobgesellschaft Blitz Innsbruck.
Franz Lorenz, his brother Richard, and Wohlgemuth competed again in 1936 at Garmisch-Partenkirchen with Austria 1. The four man bob then finished 11th.
