Biography

Ferenc Lőrincz started speed skating for Bp. Honvéd, then in1953 he moved to the Bp. Kinizsi (FTC) team. Although Lőrincz was an excellent skater he could not leave the “eternal” second place in the domestic championship, finishing second in six championships in a row between 1950 and 1955. He took third place in his last Hungarian season in 1956.

At the international level Lőrincz participated in the 1952 Oslo Olympics, where he took an excellent 10th place in the 1500-meter distance, leaving behind competitors from countries such as Canada, Finland, Sweden, and Norway who had a significant advantage over the Hungarian athlete simply because of the climatic conditions of their countries. In the same year he also finished third in the 500m at the European Championships in Östersund, Sweden. After the 1956 revolution and war of independence he went abroad.

Personal Bests: 500 – 44.6 (1955); 1500 – 2:23.7 (1952); 5000 – 8:37.0 (1955); 10000 – 17:29.9 (1955).
