Jan Maciejko began his ice hockey career with Cracovia Kraków in 1926 and remained at the club for nearly all his career. During the 1930s and 1940s Maciejko was regarded as one of the best goaltenders in Poland, which saw him become a four-time Polish champion (1937, 1946–47, 1949). His playing career was interrupted by the war, as he joined the Polish Army to fight in the September Campaign. From the end of 1939 he was part of a sabotage crew that took out German transportation, which later earned him the Military Virtue medal.
Due to the war Maciejko only played in 28 matches for the Polish national team from 1938 to 1952. This included two editions of the World Championships (1939, 1947) and the 1948 St. Moritz Olympics. Following his playing career Maciejko became an ice hockey coach for several teams.
