Biography

Danish architect Ejnar Mindedal Rasmussen won a silver medal at the 1928 Art Competitions in the category Architecture, Architectural Designs in Amsterdam for his work Swimming pool in Ollerup. Rasmussen was a neoclassical architect, but also used modern materials. Until 1923, he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Portraiture, Sculpture, and Architecture in København. After that, he ran his own studio in Ollerup, worked for various government agencies and became head of the craft school in Ollerup. His father Daniel was also an architect and director of the Technical University in Ollerup.

In 1924, Ejnar participated in the Olympic art competitions with plans from 1919/20 for the remodeling of the Gymnastikhøjskolen i Ollerup. Through extensions he developed a two-storey three-wing system with traditional construction techniques and materials. By lowering the floor to basement level, he achieved double height for the gym. The neo-classical swimming pool of 1925 was the first covered swimming pool in Denmark. The basin and the domed skylight roof were constructed using reinforced concrete, the columns around the basin were made from white cement. The swimming pool was renovated and re-opened in 2007.
