Danish functional architect Frits Schlegel also worked as a furniture designer in the Bauhaus style. From 1916-23 he studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in København. There he was awarded in 1924 with the Small Gold Medal for his design of a stadium, which was submitted four years later in Amsterdam. He later built the famous Tivoli Concert Hall in the Tivoli Gardens, one of his most important works. He became best known as a pioneer of international functionalism. Schlegel recognized the aesthetic possibilities of modern materials and was one of the first in Denmark to experiment with poured-in-place concrete houses.
