Philippe Le Molt acquired a law degree before he studied art in Paris under René Xavier Prinet and Othon Friesz. Le Molt soon developed his own style and attended the Salon des Tuileries, starting in 1923, and the Salon d’Automne, starting in 1929. Later, his works were shown in major European cities but also in New York, Rio de Janeiro and Cairo. After experimenting with Cubism, he returned to realism and belonged to the group of “painters of poetic reality”. Le Molt mainly painted landscapes, still lifes and nudes. In addition to oil paintings he also created decorations for operas or ballets as well as decorations of churches (including the St. Barbara church in Wittenheim near Mulhouse) and schools (such as the High School in Fontainebleau). In 1934, he was awarded the Society of Art Lovers and Collectors prize.
