Francisque Michot was captain of the rugby team Stade Forézien Universitaire (now Club athlétique de Saint- Étienne Loire sud rugby) before the First World War. In 1922, he wrote a treatise about the sport. He also entered a sculpture with this topic in 1924. Michot, however, became better known as a draftsman and watercolorist and then signed his works with “E. M.”. He attended the École des Beaux Arts in Paris and served as a lieutenant during World War I.
