Maurice Thiriet

French composer Maurice Thiriet received an Honorable Mention in the Art Competitions at the 1948 London Olympics for his work Le Serment de l’Athlete in the Music category, Compositions for Orchestra. It was written in 1948 for Coir and orchestra.

Thiriet began composing when only 13-years-old and was funded primarily by famous composer Maurice Ravel. Thiriet then studied in Paris at the Conservatoire under the guidance of several well-known French composers of the early 20th century. His ballet La Nuit Venetienne was his breakthrough, when it was staged at the Paris Opera. He was best known for his more than 80 film scores. Here, he worked with a number of famous directors including Christian-Jaque (“Fanfan la Tulipe”), Robert Siodmak, Terence Young, and Marcel Carné (“Les Enfants du paradis”).
