After starting with MAC, Sándor Magyar played for BKE Budapest from 1927-40, the dominant team in Hungary during the 1930s, winning Hungarian Championships in 1937 and 1940. In 1932 he joined the Grasshoppers Zürich in Switzerland for one season. Magyar played a total of 33 games for the Hungarian national team, competing in two Winter Olympics (1928, 1936), two Europeans (1927, 1929), and three World Championships (1930, 1931 and 1933). In 1933 he represented Hungary at the Students’ World Championships. He was later inducted into the Hungarian Ice Hockey Hall of Fame.
After attending a technical school Magyar worked for the Hungarian company IBUSZ, ultimately as head of the import/export department. After 1943 he lived in Switzerland, running a private company. He also worked as a sports journalist writing about tennis and golf. His brother Frigyes was a soccer and hockey player and coach.
