Scottish sculptor Jess Lawson Peacey studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London where she had been awarded a scholarship. At some time she became a fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors. She produced works for pottery companies mostly in the art deco style, and later also produced some water color paintings.
In 1916, Lawson Peacey emigrated to the United States, where she married three years later. In 1933 she settled in New York. In 1919, she became the first female sculptor to be awarded the Widener gold medal for her work Belgium, 1914. Her plaster group Youths Wrestling is featured in the catalog of art competitions.
