Rudolf Bosselt

Rudolf Bosselt was a sculptor, medalist and educational reformer. He was educated in Berlin, Frankfurt and at the Académie Julian in Paris. He was seen as belonging to the Art Nouveau style. He was one of the founders of Darmstadt’s artists’ colony. He taught at art schools in Düsseldorf, Braunschweig and Magdeburg, and was later Secretary General of the “Reich’s Association of Visual Artists” in Berlin. After being forced to retire he headed the magazine “Art and Science”. He created numerous gravestones and fountains, animal statues, busts, groups, and head sculptures.

The bronze casted medal 1931 Stein memorial year – Honorary award of the Reich President designed by Rudolf Bosselt had a diameter of 73 mm and a weight of 233 g. The annually redesigned medals linked to historic events since 1930 were awarded for achievements in sports competitions on Constitution Day.
