Biography

Like his twin brother Franz (1897-61) Hermann Wandinger was trained as a goldsmith. After World War I the brothers separated, Hermann studied goldsmith’s art in München, Basel and Paris, later additionally sculpturing at the Academy of Fine Arts in München as a student of Josef Wackerle, while Franz took over his parents’ business in Dorfen, while Franz took over the family business. From 1937-42 Hermann headed the State Master School in Hanau. During the Second World War, the Wandinger twins worked “on the Führer’s personal order”. During this time, they mainly created “gifts of honor” for Nazi VIPs and international fascists. In 1945 his studio in München was completely destroyed in a bombing raid. After his brother’s death in 1961, Hermann gave up the goldsmith’s art and solely worked as a painter and sculptor.
