Dora Corty-Mönkemeyer

Dora Corty-Mönkemeyer was a woodcutter, illustrator, and commercial artist who studied at the School of Applied Arts in Dresden from 1910-13. She designed a large number of posters and was considered one of the most renowned German poster artists. After 1949, she designed especially advertising posters. She was married to painter Fritz Mönkemeyer (1888-1981).

The posters entered by Corty-Mönkemeyer included concepts like the Poster design “Olympic Games Berlin 1936”. The Poster “German Gymnastics Association, District Gymnastics Festival in Meißen” was designed for the gymnastics festival of the Dresden district of the German Gymnastics Association in Meißen in July 1934. There is an illustration of the Letter of honor from the German Gymnastics Association dated 1936, but there is no proof that it is the design of this artist.
