Günther von Scheven received an Honorable Mention for his medal Hurdler at the 1936 Berlin Art Competitions in the category Sculpturing, Medals. The other two entries, Discus thrower and Javelin thrower, are probably statues. He first studied philosophy in Heidelberg and Berlin, but also did a craft training and studied sculpture. He made study trips to Italy and Greece. In Berlin, von Scheven became a close friend of Georg Kolbe, who published his biography in 1944. Von Scheven mainly produced figurative statues in marble, granite and bronze. In 1942 he was killed in action during World War II somewhere in Russia. His gravesite is still unknown.
