Since the end of the 19th century there were plans for a large stadium complex in Budapest, which could be used as an Olympic stadium. Several locations came into play and numerous architects created designs - often on their own initiative. Pál Vágó’s design was one of three presented in November 1933. He planned a stadium in the Nádorkert-Lágymányos area in the XI. District, which is still used mainly as an industrial area.
