Yoshitaro Sato graduated from Okayama Normal School in 1925 and passed the test for western painting and drawing in 1928. From 1940, he worked as a teacher at the Okayama Prefecture Normal School. In 1950, he was the first teacher to transfer from the normal school to the newly established arts and crafts department of the Okayama University. Although he was highly specialized, he became responsible for painting and arts and crafts, eventually being promoted to associate professor. Sato also exhibited at the Nitten, Hakujitsu (Daydream) and Watercolor Association Exhibitions.
