Corry Gallas was a Dutch painter who primarily painted pictures of flowers in pastel colours and portraits. Her style was impressionistic, and she lived and worked mostly in Amsterdam. From 1907-14 Gallas studied at the Rijksakademie of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. After completing her education, she received a royal scholarship for three years undertaking study trips to Rome, Florence, Venice, Algeria and Norway. In 1920 she settled in Den Haag but spent the years 1947-50 in London. She gained a good reputation as a portrait painter. Her painting Golf-houding (Golf Posture) is shown in “Sport in Beeld”. It portrays the amateur sportsman and 1932 literature Olympian Jan Feith, a member of the Art Section of the Dutch Organizing Committee in 1928.
