Biography

In additional to being an international bobsledder, Rodney Mann was a rugby union lock forward. Having played for Edinburgh Wanderers and the Royal Navy, he moved to Yorkshire in 1950 and played for the Hull side, Riding RUFC. Mann later moved to Northumberland to live and played for Northern RUFC.

In 1957 Northern were due to play Middlesbrough but two opposing players had to miss the match because they were on duty with the British Bobsleigh team at the World Championships in St. Moritz. Mann was one, and the other was the Middlesbrough forward Keith Schellenberg. The two were team-mates at the 1956 Cortina Olympics.
