Hendrik van den Eijnde was one of the artists who had affiliated himself with the Art Deco style. He was a Dutch sculptor, furniture designer, graphic artist and illustrator. First an apprentice at a factory for ornaments in Haarlem, he then went to a drawing school there. From 1891-1914 he worked in the studios of well-known sculptors and then headed a sculptor’s studio in Amsterdam. The partially self-taught artist was also known as a sculptor of monuments and wall decorations in homes and commercial buildings. For a decade he was also a lecturer at a college for architecture. Van den Eijnde is considered as one of the founders of the Amsterdam School of Sculpture. In 1932 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Orange-Nassau.
