Biography

Swedish sculptor Arvid Källström produced an extremely wide range of artistic works, from portraits to monumental sculpture groups, and fountains to church sculptures, both figurative and abstract. Both of his parents were also sculptors. Källstrom sculpted in almost all tangible materials and created more than 3,000 sculptures. He studied in København (Copenhagen), with the famous Danish sculptor Kai Nielsen, and – at the suggestion of Carl Eldh – in Paris and later made extensive trips throughout Europe.

Källström lived in Paris for few years, returning to Sweden in 1934 where he continued to make a name for himself as a highly skilled sculptor, specializing in fine art and public sculptures. In 1939 he eventually settled in Påskallavik. He was represented at the 1932 and 1936 Olympics in the art competitions. His sculpture At the finishing tape (later usually simply “At the Finish”) is a bronze figure that stands on a plinth on the bank of Lillfjärden lake in front of the Hudiksvall sports center since 1943.
