Anshelm Schultzberg was a Swedish painter who specialized in Swedish winter landscapes and was considered the “author” of winter landscape painting. He was a close observer of nature and an advocate of outdoor painting. He also produced figurative paintings and still life, and some of his works also show scenes of social realism. His paintings later lost consumer interest due to their opulence. Schultzberg aimed at becoming a painter as a 14-year-old. After copying paintings in the National Museum in his youth, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1881-86. At the World Exhibition in St. Louis in 1904 (during which the Olympic Games were held) he received a medal for creating the Swedish exhibition. In 1932 Schultzberg took care of the selection of the entries on behalf of the Swedish NOK. His Skier is shown in the catalog of the art exhibition.
