František Draškovič

Slovak František Draškovič began his career with a stonemason apprenticeship in Stupava. He then studied at the state industrial school in Hořice in 1928-31 and then at the Academy of Arts in Praha (Prague) from 1931-37. Subsequently, he completed his studies in Roma. He then worked as a sculptor and, after World War II, permanently settled in Bratislava and engaged in many creative activities, including the realization of several monumental works in architecture, such as statues on the facades of theaters or plastic reliefs of the New City Hall. He was also noted for his many portraits.

As a teacher, Draškovič worked at the high school in Nové Mesto, and after the World War II at the technical school and later at the technical university in Bratislava. He qualified for the scholarship in Italy with the plaster sculpture Weightlifter or Athlete. The work was his final thesis at the art academy in Praha and shows a weightlifter immediately before the attempt.
