Abelardo Cuevas was a Cuban oboist, hornist, saxophonist and composer. During the 1930s, he studied and taught at the Municipal Academy of Music of Remedios, a town on the northern coast of Cuba, where he also led a saxophone septet (Septimino Cuevas). About 10 years later, Cuevas became a member of the Conjunto Sinfónico de Saxofones (Symphonic Saxophones’ Ensemble), which was founded by Francisco “Tito” D’Rivera, a classical musician, conductor and saxophone player.
