Salvadorian painter Pedro (in some sources his given name is noted as Pierre), studied in Paris in the 1920s at the École des Beaux-Arts. He then also exhibited in 1923 at the Maison de L’Amérique Latine, in 1924 with the Exposition d’Art Américain-Latin at the Musée Galliera, and in 1925 at the Galeries Georges Petit. In 1927, de Matheu joined his father, the ambassador in Madrid, going to Spain and lived and worked in Puerto Real in Andalusia.
In addition to painting, where his favorite subject was the landscape, de Matheu also dabbled in interior decoration. He was associated with impressionism and Fauvism in the first quarter of the Parisian century. In 1941 he exhibited for the first time in El Salvador in the Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
