Biography

Frederic Whiting was a British painter, etcher of portraits, landscapes, figurative and equestrian subjects, illustrator, journalist and a war correspondent for The Graphic during the Chinese and the Russo-Japanese War. Whiting was best known for his equestrian scenes, painted in both oil and watercolor. He studied at the Royal Academy, the Académie Julian in Paris and taught at Heatherley School of Fine Art. His Riding Lesson, shown in 1948 out of competition, was executed in oil on canvas measuring 154.5 x 124 cm. It was auctioned in Monte Carlo in 2021.
