Biography

Pál Antal was a member of MTK Budapest from 1906-09 and later transferred to Postatakarékpénztár SE, the club of the Postal Savings Bank, and then to BBTE. Born in the part of the Hungarian kingdom which is now Slovakia, he competed in the Hungarian and Czech Championships. In the discus throw, he placed second in 1907 and third in 1908 in the Hungarian Championships before he finally won the title in 1909. In addition, he was Hungarian College Champion in 1907 and second in 1908. In 1908, he also claimed the Czech national title in discus throw and repeated this feat in 1910. In the latter year, he also placed second in the shot put.

In 1908, Antal came fourth in the Hungarian trials which earned him a place on the team at the London Olympics, but he did not start. Four years later, he was again entered in the discus throw, only to miss his second opportunity to compete.

In 1910, Antal moved to Prešov, where he had been playing for the local football club ETVE since 1907 and winning the championships of the Northern District.

In civilian life, he worked as a lawyer for the Sorompo National Industrial Protection League, an organisation which aimed to support Hungary’s domestic industry and boycott foreign, primarily Austrian goods.
