Béla Szabó was a jumper from Debrecen. A student at the Reformed Main Gymnasium he competed in his first events in 1906. In the following years he became one of the best high and long jumpers of the country. On a regional level, he also competed as a sprinter, in the javelin throw, and standing jumps. Until 1908, he represented the Debreceni Akadémiai Atlétikai Club (DAAC) and subsequently the Debreceni Torna Egylet (DTE). One year later, he competed in the colours of MAC in Budapest. In the years from 1910-14 he won three silvers at the Hungarian Championships: in the high jump in 1910 and 1914 and in the long jump in 1912. Szabó was entered in jumping events at the 1908 and 1912 Olympic Games but did not compete at either Games.
