Szilárd Joanovits was a Hungarian shot putter of Transylvanian descent. He already competed in 1909 as a junior in shot put and pole vault. Between 1910-12 Joanovits had three podiums in the shot put at the national championships, winning silver in 1910 representing MAFC, silver again in 1911, and bronze in 1912, then representing BEAC. In 1912, he qualified for the Hungarian team at the Stockholm Olympics, placing third in the national trials but did not compete.
In 1917, a document was written in the so-called spiked typeface by a blind person signed by a Szilárd Joanovits. He may have lost his eyesight serving in World War I. During World War II, he lived in Budapest and was a partner of a bandage factory.
