A Basque distance runner, Isidoro Unzueta was entered in the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the 1936 Olympics, but did not start either event, as Spain withdrew from Berlin due to the ongoing Spanish Civil War. Unzueta won the 1936 Spanish 10K title and was second in the 5,000 metres. His 10,000 winning time of 32:57.6 was a Basque record that stood until 1947. Unzueta won his first major race at age 17 and in 1935, aged 18, won every race he entered, including the Gipuzkoa 2nd Division Championship and the races in San Sebastián, Zarautz, Bilbao, Ordizia, and Eibar.
Personal Bests: 5,000 – 15:40.6 (1936); 10,000 – 32:57.6 (1936).
