Biography

Ken Anderson was a member of E Division in the Liverpool City Police force, and was another one of the many fine athletes produced by the Liverpool force over the years. He was a Northern Counties sprint champion and between 1947-53 won the National Police Championships sprint double of 100 and 220 yards. Anderson was also an England international and was a member of the Great Britain 4x100 metres relay squad that won silver at the 1948 London Olympics, although he was a non-starter. Anderson was also a good footballer and played on the wing for the Liverpool City Police team and, in 1953, he followed fellow Olympian McDonald Bailey and briefly ventured into Rugby League after joining Liverpool City RLFC.

During World War II, Anderson joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1941 and eventually became a pilot officer after obtaining his “wings”. In 1945 he was honoured with the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for his part in bombing raids over Germany. After the War, Anderson moved to Scotland after marrying an Edinburgh girl, and he opened a detective agency in the Scottish capital.
