Stefán Sörensson was entered in triple jump for Iceland at the 1948 London Olympics but did not compete. He was an Icelandic champion in the triple jump and held the national record from 1946-55. He also ran on an Icelandic record setting 4x100 relay team.
Sörensson obtained a law degree from the University of Iceland in 1954. He worked as a representative of the district commissioner of Þingeyjarsýsla, was mayor of Húsavík 1956-65, and then was bank branch manager of Samvinnbanki Íslands from 1965-69. Sörensson worked as a Representative of the University of Iceland in 1969-71 and was university secretary from 1971-90.
Sörensson was a member of various committees, both in Húsavík and under the auspices of the University of Iceland and the Ministry of Education. Sörensson sang in various choirs and quartets in Akureyri, Reykjavík, and Húsavík and for a long time with the Tón Quartet in Húsavík.
