Italian sprinter Franco Ossola was born a few months after the tragic death of his father, who was a member of the famous “Grande Torino” football team that perished in the Superga plane crash on 4 May 1949. Ossola was baptized with the same name as his father. Ossola junior’s only major tournament as an athlete was the 1972 München Olympics, where he was a reserve in the 4x100 relay. He won three Italian international caps from 1970-74.
Ossola graduated in architecture and also became a writer and collaborator with daily sports newspapers. He wrote several books dedicated to the history of Torino FC including Cuore Toro, Un Secolo di Toroand Il Romanzo del Grande Torino (which won a CONI Award), on which the Claudio Bonivento directed 2005 TV mini-series Il Grande Torino was based.
